How to Wash Your Face

Daily facial cleansing is much more than just an action. Whether you do a morning or evening routine it all starts with washing and cleansing your face.

Cleansing every morning and evening rids the skin of excess oils, makeup and dirt that accumulate on the face during the day. Washing your face will allow your skin to properly absorb any skin care products you apply afterwards. This is why cleansing is essential. Proper face washing can help alleviate several problems, from a compromised protective barrier to acne.

How to wash your face?

Wash your hands first.

This may sound trivial, but if your hands aren't clean, all the dirt and bacteria will rub into your facial skin.

Тake off your makeup.

This especially applies to ladies who use makeup on a daily basis. Before you proceed to further cleanse and wash your face, you should first remove your makeup, with a liquid makeup remover. If your makeup is waterproof, it is best to use an oily-based cleanser. It will break it down much better. Use a cotton swab soaked in a makeup remover and wipe the lipstick off your lips. Gently clean the eye contour. With your eyes closed, gently wipe the makeup from your upper eyelids in a top-down direction. The movements should be gentle, with the necessary force, without rubbing the skin. Use as many pads as you need.

Wet your face.

It is important to wet your face with clean water. You can do this with a soaked towel or simply splash your face on the sink. It is preferable to use warm water because hot water further dries out the skin.

Use a gentle cleanser.

Place a little of the product in your palm, about the size of a coin. Smear it in both palms and start rubbing it gently on your face. Be careful not to apply pressure and avoid eye contact. This procedure will remove dead skin cells as well as dust

Rinse and dry.

Remove the product from your face by rinsing with warm and finishing with cold water. Dry with a soft towel without applying pressure. It is very important not to scrub or rub your skin with a towel or any kind of cloth, they are only used to absorb the water from your face.

Finish cleansing your face with a toner.

Choose products with no alcohol in their composition, otherwise you risk your skin becoming dry. Toner soothes irritated skin and makes it soft and smooth.

How to wash your face according to your skin type?

Dry skin.

If you have dry skin, a face cleanser will better keep your skin barrier moisturized and healthy. A face cleanser is made to purify, hydrate, and soothe your skin. The texture will be creamy, milky, gel-like, or even watery.

Look for formulas with hydrating ingredients. It is not about finding something that is full of ingredients but rather using a simple and effective formula. Avoid cleansers with fragrance, foaming agents and essential oils which can all trigger irritation and sensitivity in those with dry skin.

Oil cleanser is a gentle way to clean your skin and maintain the skin’s balance. Oil cleansers are effective because they are filled with oil particles that attract and break down makeup, sebum, oil, sweat and dirt on your face without interfering with your skin’s barrier function. Oil attracts other oils and breaks them down by dissolving them without drying your skin.

Using cleansing milk will dissolves makeup and will restore moisture and balance back to your skin. Use a small amount on a cotton pad and gently wipe your face to remove any makeup, oil or sweat from your face.

Combination skin.

People with combination skin have to get products that walk a fine line between not stripping moisture from the dry parts of the face while controlling sebum on oilier areas. Experts recommend a mild, water-soluble and balancing cleanser that doesn’t have overly harsh ingredients. Gel-based and mild foaming cleansers work well for combination skin. Cleansers for this type of skin will frequently specify this on their packaging.

Avoid products that are too creamy or greasy as this may lead to clogged pores. At the same time, you don’t want to use products that can increase oil production or further dry out your dry areas. It’s helpful to steer clear of alcohol and fragrance, which can dry out the skin and activate even more oil production. A few on the off-limits list include salicylic acid, alcohol, and benzoyl peroxide.

Oily skin.

Regular cleansing twice a day and after sports on oily skin is very important. This step will remove excess sebum from the surface of the skin and other impurities that can contribute to skin problems. The skin should be cleansed with the most suitable cosmetic product (gel-based, foaming cleanser) that will not irritate and dry your skin. It is needed by your skin to keep the pores clean and to remove oil, dirt and impurities that can increase the production of sebum (which makes your face oily). During the day, you can reach for the mattifying papers, thanks to which you will remove excess oil from your face and bring back the fresh and matte look of your skin.

In the case of oily skin, exfoliating once a week (there are also softer exfoliants for oily skin that are recommended by manufacturers for more frequent use) is also an important stage.

At the same time, it is best to abandon mechanical peeling in favor of enzymatic peeling. Abrasive peels contain particles that spread bacteria. After peeling, apply an antibacterial or tightening mask. Choose one that contains natural and pure ingredients that won't clog skin pores.

It is very important to know that oily skin does not like excessive cleansing - the more you wash your face and remove the sebum layer, the more you stimulate the sebaceous glands. Washing too often also disturbs the skin's natural balance, and this can open the way for harmful bacteria.

Double cleansing.

Double cleaning is a technique where you use two different cleaning products one after the other. To do it right, you need to choose a combination that balances out instead of giving too much of one thing. For example, two deep cleansing products can exhaust your skin, but using a hydrating cleanser or cleansing conditioner before finishing with a deep cleansing foam creates balance. Order is key. The first cleanser should be gentle and hydrating and used to remove makeup, oil and impurities.

Now that most contaminants have been removed, it's time to focus on deep cleansing. You don't necessarily need something harsh like benzoyl peroxide, you can opt for a deep cleansing mask or a foaming face wash. It will clean and prepare your skin effectively for the rest of your routine.

Double cleansing takes longer, but it's worth it for all skin types.

After you have cleansed your face you should also apply an appropriate (according to your skin type) face cream.
