Skin Care Routine for Combination Skin

Combination skin is recognized as oily skin in some areas of the face and dry skin in other areas. Typically, the T-zone is more prone to oiliness and the dry areas are usually around the cheeks, jawline and along the hairline. The most common skin type, which as we can see from its name, is combination skin. One of the main factors for combination skin is genetic. Other factors for combination skin can be hormonal and seasonal changes. The combination of oily and dry skin can manifest in different ways and in different amounts.

Different types of combination skin

We are dealing with two skin types that we need to learn to take care of so that the skin doesn't dry out and at the same time tame the T-zone oiliness a bit. As long as the T-zone shows a slight glow and the cheeks are not dry, you can say that you have combination skin that does not require special care. It's enough to moisturize it, mattify it where necessary, and remember to cleanse it.

The problem arises when the T-zone is permanently oily, giving the impression of wet skin. Such skin often shows open comedones (blackheads), especially around the nose, as well as other rashes - integral companions of sebum overproduction and keratinization disorders. At the same time, the cheeks are dry, to the appearance of scaling or an unpleasant stretching sensation. In this case, it's worth checking what to reach for to bring relief and balance to your skin.

Best skin care routine for combination skin on face:

Cleanse

Use a gentle water-soluble cleaner. This can be a creamy facial foam or a cleansing gel. The goal is for it to effectively remove dirt, residue and makeup without leaving the skin feeling stretched, dry or greasy.

Apply toner

Apply a hydrating and soothing toner. don't skip this step, it is extremely beneficial for this skin type.

Use a moisturiser

Use a moisturizer during the day and protect your skin from sun damage.

Use "non-comedogenic" makeup products.

If your dry areas need more hydration, then apply another moisturizer or antioxidant serum to those areas first.

Use an overnight moisturizer that contains antioxidants, skin repairing ingredients and skin restoring ingredients. For dry areas, add another layer of an emollient serum to relieve dryness.

Facial mask

Once per week, apply different masks to different areas of the face.

The best for oily areas only choose a mask with non-comedogenic oils which promises to prevent dryness, and manage excess t-zone oiliness, and ceramides for drier areas of the face.

What to watch out for in combination skin care?

First of all - radical solutions and using care that have helped another person, because they do not necessarily work in your case.

Avoid the following factors:

  • Alcohol-based toners and any other cosmetic methods that heavily degrease the skin. This leads to increased seborrhea in the T-zone, irritation and dryness on the sides of the face, not to mention

  • The sun - protect your skin all year round

  • Anti-acne cosmetics - these cosmetics dry out severely dry areas of the skin resulting in peeling and redness

Be patient as you search for your perfect products. You just have to remember that you should not compulsively try to keep your nose and forehead mattified at all costs. It won't work, and regularly drying out the skin is never good.

If you have more prominent skin conditions or areas of concern, we recommend talking with a dermatologist.
